Washington DC--Sunday

I have so many stories I want to write down and so little time to myself to do that! I'm going to do my best this week to "catch up." We spent 4 nights in National Harbor/Washington DC last week as our family vacation which we saved for the fall when we were pretty sure we wouldn't have a kitchen. Our timing was right.

Our first stop was the National Arboretum on our way in to DC. Four years ago we read a book called The Peace Tree and went to see the bonsai tree that was highlighted in the book. We arrived 20 minutes after the exhibit closed. Aliza was so disappointed. You can use the following link to see just how disappointed she was in the picture at the end of the post. http://carlaslittlethings.blogspot.com/2017/10/great-falls-maryland.html We finally made good on our promise to go back to see the bonsai tree exhibit.

It didn't disappoint. I am not educated on how bonsai trees are created or cared for, regardless the trees were fascinating to look at.  This is the particular tree that we were looking for. It has been dated back to the 1600s.

This one had such a unique trunk:
This one is a Coastal Redwood.

There were so many. It was a much larger exhibit than I expected.

We took so many pictures because each one was so unique!

That was the only part of the arboretum that we explored this time. Jeremy's parents were arriving at the time share for the evening and we didn't want to keep them waiting too long. Unloading and checking in is such an ordeal as so many people are arriving at the same time, but we made it with only a bit of drama.

Grandma and Grandpa came to celebrate Isaiah's birthday (which was officially the next day) and Joel and Amanda came to spend a couple days with us. It was a lovely evening of hanging out together. Right after supper Anna and Isaiah were ready to go to the pool. Our unit was situated was on the same level as the pool, separated only by a hedge. They thought it was the neatest trick to be able to slide between the hedge and the wall to the pool deck.

The children were so excited to be there and Isaiah was double excited that his birthday was the next day--it took them forever to fall asleep! And then no one slept good that night. Josiah was in the king bed with us for a few hours and then he went back to his bed when Isaiah came in for the rest of the night. That made for a tired mom the next day, but this was not a vacation for rest! We had a whole list of places to see!
